"Movie Star" by Kat Dion: Album Reaction
Today I wanted to take the time to highlight an album by a super talented indie musician.
Movie Star written and recorded by Kat Dion came out on July 29th, 2020. Kat Dion (original name: Katherine Gagne) is a Canadian singer-songwriter that I’m lucky enough to call a friend of mine. I met her in the summer of 2017 when we were both visiting Los Angeles. Back then, she was constantly singing and talking about how she really wanted to release music. Well, now that she has finally released a full album, I’m astounded by how much she’s grown as an artist and how much her talent is on display.
The album is made up of seven songs: 1) Hollywood Bitch, 2) Insomnia, 3) Curious, 4) Midnight Suicide, 5) Sometimes, 6) Outlaws, 7) Movie Star/Imposter.
As a complete work, Movie Star combines lyrical meaning with the production and sounds of decades past. It’s nostalgia in the sense of bringing forward, not necessarily going back.
Currently, I think my favorite song on the album is “Curious” followed closely by “Hollywood Bitch.” But I truly think there are no skips on this album.
If you’re into finding rising artists before they become famous, then I highly suggest following Kat on Spotify as well as on her Instagram page (@bumfuzzle.girl).
Support Kat.
