"Uprooted" Announcement (and a small request!)
It’s been a minute since my last blog, so I sincerely hope this blog reaches an audience since what I’m writing about today is extremely important to me.
Earlier this month, an independent theater company that I’m working with (La Pacha Apapacha) announced that we are planning to stage the world premiere of “Uprooted” – written and directed by Brazilian feminist playwright Juliana Spínola – in New York City in 2023.
In this transcendent, stirring, and heartbreaking play, a group of women from different cultural backgrounds come together to tell their own stories, the stories from our past and the stories from the future we wish to build. They learn that we must stand for each other - especially for the women who are simply trying to survive the choices of others.
However, creating theater in New York City can sometimes be difficult, and we truly need these campaign funds in order to move forward with the project. If you head to the Kickstarter link here, you can find all the info on the play, where we are at in the process, information about the main production team, and the way to donate.
Kickstarter is an “all or nothing” platform, which means that we must reach our goal in order to receive the funding. (Meaning your card doesn’t get charged unless we reach our goal!)
I deeply care about this project. Not only because it deals with all sorts of nuance and subtleties that have to do with feminism, but I’m also getting to work with such an amazing group of women. Everyone on the project so far is super committed and is doing everything they can to make this work.
So, please, if you can spare anything at all, consider donating.
Thank you!
xx Selma
