Selma Dučanović is a Bosnian-American actress, writer, and singer-songwriter born in Hamburg, Germany as a refugee. She was born to parents who had sought safety in Germany during the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. When Selma was still a baby, she and her parents immigrated to Seattle, Washington.

Selma began singing and performing in school when she was ten years old and continued her music education throughout middle and high school. For college, she was accepted into the Music Industry Business program at Drexel University in Philadelphia and, in conjunction with her music business studies, began pursuing knowledge and training in theater as well. As a result of her hard work, Selma quickly attained a theater scholarship and membership into the Drexel Co-op Theatre Company where she became involved in productions such as their Drexel New Works Festivals, the Winter Musical Theater Cabaret, and Drexel’s Directors’ Labs. In her Drexel theater classes, Selma studied the teachings of Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, Meisner, and the Viewpoints method of movement. As part of her senior project, Selma released and marketed her first EP, "What You've Done.” She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Music Industry.

Shortly after college, Selma began studying in the Evening Conservatory at the Atlantic Acting School in New York City where she received the Practical Aesthetics Scholarship. There, she studied the practical aesthetics method developed by David Mamet and William H Macy. She completed her studies during the pandemic with a made-for-Zoom production of I am a Positive Person written by Danny Rocco for her conservatory class.

Since graduating from the Atlantic Acting School, Selma has acted in several theater and film projects, and has worked as an interviewer and Q&A moderator for the Winter Film Awards International Film Festival for two years in a row. She dabbled in modeling with two print ads for Bosnian-owned clothing brand Balkan Bred, and through walking in the Wears in Care Charity Fashion Show. Selma also became an audiobook narrator when she narrated the audiobooks for “Nadia” by Christine Evans and “Three Summers” by Amra Sabić-El-Rayess through Penguin Random House.

Fluent in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, she has a deep interest in Eastern European and Balkan history. Furthermore, she is conversational in French and holds dual citizenship with the United States and Bosnia. Some of Selma’s interests include watching soccer, Formula 1, and Eurovision, and she is currently teaching herself High Valyrian through Duolingo!
